Blown engine prevents Pierce from victory lane visit

Currie Pierce was on the verge of victory on Saturday at Lanier National Speedway but mechanical woes got the better of his fast No. 16 legend car just laps from taking the checkered flag.

“In practice, we were the fastest car there early. We ran another two laps and it was still the second fastest car there at the time. We put the car up and waited for the heat race to come around. We won it,” he said.. Read More..

Pierce grabs a second and a third in Georgia legends action

Legends racer Currie Pierce has kept busy over the last few weeks, racing across his native Georgia, picking up points and contending for race wins.

Last Saturday at Lanier National Speedway, Pierce’s feature presence was narrowly a no-go after a close call in his first heat race. Pierce and two other competitors somehow made it three-wide gunning towards turns 1 and 2 at the start on the 3/8-mile short track, with Pierce holding his breath through the run to finish second.

He then had the pole for the second heat run. The stout track position and Pierce’s no-holds-barred racing style led him to the heat win. Read More..

PIERCE GEARING UP FOR SUMMER LEGENDS RACING, VISITS TURNER FIELD

GRIFFIN, Ga. – Georgia’s Currie Pierce has been racing for most of the winter and early spring of 2009, but the most competitive and important races of the legends car season are just around the corner. Pierce, who races in the pro legends division, plans to compete this summer in both Atlanta Motor Speedway’s Thursday Thunder Series and Lowe’s Motor Speedway’s prestigious Summer Shootout Series on Tuesday nights. Both series are 10-race schedules; both begin in early June.

Pierce made every race in both series last summer, and hopes to fare well throughout his first summer in the pro legends class.

“Competition will be even tougher than last summer, but I think we have more experience and the car is working better than it was last year. We’re second in the points right now at Lanier (National Speedway, Ga.) and we’ve been running well in the pro class.” Read More..

PIERCE FINISHES 3RD AT LANIER AFTER MAKING BID FOR THE WIN ON FINAL TURN

BRASELTON, Ga. – Currie Pierce drove to another top finish in the pro legends car class Saturday night at Georgia’s Lanier National Speedway.  After winning his heat race, Pierce started second in the 20-lap feature and ran inside the top four all race long.  The race went green for the first 14 laps until a caution resulted in a late-race restart, which put Pierce in the third position.

Currie advanced to second on the restart and followed Steven Ross throughout the final laps.  On the final lap, Pierce made a bid for the lead going into Turns 3 and 4, trying to find room under the leader Ross. He drove into the third corner a bit too deep and got loose, allowing Kyle Beattie to pass him before the leaders exited Turn 4.  After making the last-ditch effort to get the win, Pierce had to settle for a respectable third-place finish behind Ross and Beattie.  Read More..
